Portuguese Short Films in Focus at Next Film Festival [13/12/2018]

The NexT Film Festival is a festival of reference in the international short film circuit. Born under the aegis of Cristian Nemescu and Andrei Toncu (a director and a sound director respectively) who died in a car accident when they were finishing Nemescu's first feature, which would debut after his death in the section Un Certain Regard in Cannes. Their producer Ada Solomon decided to do them the best possible homage by helping to create a festival in their honor, which has become in the last decade in one of the main Romanian and European festivals. In the last edition of the festival (due to financial constraints), the director of this latest edition, Yvonne Irimescu, wants to be a great moment to celebrate the cinema and invited Portugal, namely Portugal Film and IndieLisboa to create a program of short films together.
The films to be presented, tomorrow and Sunday, divided into two programs are: Ascension, by Pedro Peralta (Terratreme Filmes), Batrachian's Ballad, by Leonor Teles (Uma Pedra no Sapato), Campo de Víboras, by Cristèle Alves Meira (Fluxus Films),
Flores, by Jorge Jácome (Blackmaria), The Night Shift, by Hugo Pedro (Leopardo Filmes), Arena, by João Salaviza (Filmes Do Tejo Cine), Paris 15/16, by Teresa Villaverde (Alce Filmes), The Artificial Humors, by Gabriel Abrantes (Herma Films), Vira Chudnenko, by Inês Oliveira (CRIM), and The Tow Truck Driver, by Jorge Cramez (CRIM).

At the same time, the festival selected three Portuguese films (all represented by Portugal Film) in its international competition. In Program 1, Marta Mateus will compete with her Barbs, Wastelands (C.R.I.M./ OPTEC - Filmes), a film that has been making an extraordinary career in festivals and that will now have its Romanian premiere. In Program 2, it will be the turn of Where the Summer Goes (chapters on youth), David Pinheiro Vicente's (ESTC) graduation film that since its premiere at the Berlinale Shorts has made a remarkable career in festivals. In Program 4 Mirage My Bros, by Diogo Baldaia (Areosa) which will also be part of the Premiers Plans Angers Festival competition in January.
Accompanying the program is Miguel Valverde, representative of Portugal Film and IndieLisboa Festival.
