The Wolf's Lair at Viennale [22/10/2015]

The Wolf's Lair, the latest film by Catarina Mourão, will be presented at Viennale, one of the most prestigious film festivals in Europe. After its world premiere in International Film Festival Rotterdam and its exhibition at IndieLisboa - International Independent Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award, and more recently at IndieCork, in Ireland, the film will now be presented in one of the most demanding documentary programs of the 15th edition of the festival taking place in Vienna, from today until 5th November.

Catarina Mourão is known to have one of the most delicate insights of Portuguese cinema. After Through Shadows, a portrait of the artist Lourdes Castro, the director now depicts the writer Tomaz de Figueiredo who is also her grandfather. Catarina Mourão researches deep into her family's memories while confronting them. As she says: "Initially the idea was to explore the memories we block, the dreams, the unconscious, and how that is represented in cinema. A lot of the stories the family told itself to survive are false. The film is filled with fictions. The aim was not to find the truth and answer all the questions. I may leave the film with even more questions than I had when I started..."
