Three Portuguese films selected to Cinéma du Réel [24/03/2017]

Seven years after being awarded the Grand Prix, and five years after receiving a tribute to her work, Susana de Sousa Dias returns to the international competition of the French festival to debut her new documentary, OBSCURE LIGHT. After the features 48 (2010) and NATUREZA MORTA (2005), the director focuses her work again on the Estado Novo era and its archives. Filmed ten years ago, still before 48, but only now completed, the film focuses on the children of political prisoners to seek to reveal how an authoritarian system operates in family intimacy.

Also in the international competition will be presented NYO VWETA NAFTA, the fifth short film by Ico Costa, which in January world premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.

CINEMA, MANOEL DE OLIVEIRA AND ME, by João Botelho, will take part of the non-competitive section Special Screenings. Premiered at IndieLisboa in 2016, the film has been travelling through festivals such as Locarno, São Paulo, Viennale, and others.
