The Mesh and the Circle, by Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela, was selected for the International Competition and First Film Competition in one of the most demanding programmes at FID Marseille, which took place from June 30th to July 6th.The film creates a unique sensory experience, a creative play between manual work and its empirical history.Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela are young artists who work together since 2010. Their work is developed with the use of moving images intersected by installation and site-specific environments, but also drawing, photography, and sculpture. Their works have already been exhibited in London, Guimarães, Prague, Porto, Berlin, and Milan, and were widely awarded. In 2013 they won the International Award in Schermo dell'arte Film Festival, in Florence. The directors and Portugal Film were in Marseille to accompany the film and establish contacts with international programmers in the Festival.
Before Marseille, The Mesh and the Circle had already been selected both for National and International Competition in IndieLisboa - International Independent Film Festival where it won two awards: School's Award and New Talent FNAC Award. These two selections have raised a great interest in this first film of the two artists/directors.New selections from international film festivals will soon follow.
