Super Natural at Art of the Real in New York [31/05/2022]
The film Super Natural, by the Portuguese director Jorge Jácome, will be screened at Art of The Real, a film festival in New York, which starts today at Lincoln Center.
According to the organizers of the event, the ninth edition of the festival aims to reveal “some of the most innovative and vital voices in non-fiction and hybrid cinema”.
With a Q&A session scheduled with Jorge Jácome, Super Natural is the only Portuguese presence at Art of The Real, being described as “a multimedia and multi-sensory collage”.
The film arrives in the US after its premiere in Berlin about a month ago, where it won the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) award in the Forum programme.
Super Natural is the first feature film by the Portuguese director, having started as a project for a stage show by Teatro Praga, in collaboration with the Madeiran association of inclusive art Dançando com a Diferença, which didn't take place due to the pandemic.
The synopsis of the film project says that it “guides the viewer through contexts, geographies, historical curiosities, video clips, confessions and moments of humor” that help to understand that the natural, “whether of a body or an object, is always more complex than it appears to be."
“This film wants to be nothing in order to be everything. There is this idea that everything is a possibility, fiction is a possibility, documentary is a possibility, so is the experimental. The film itself reflects on this, on breaking boundaries, whether between the spectator and the film, whether filmic genres or formats. It’s as if we never wanted to define a format idea”, said Jorge Jácome
